New approaches and ways of regulating visual pollution and the problems of outdoor advertising manuals

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on the issue of visual pollution, specifically excessive advertising in public spaces. The defined areas of the city districts Brno-střed and Bratislava will be observed, within which current advertising regulations will be analysed. Howev-er, the primary attention of the thesis will be devoted to the phenomenon of manu-als as a potential solution to this problem, which are being implemented in an in-creasing number of cities worldwide. The analysis will focus on specific manuals that were developed for the Brno-střed district in 2018 and for Bratislava in 2021.The aim of the thesis is to capture the effectiveness of manuals based on an initial analy-sis of available literature and relevant sources, combined with research. The re-search part combines three approaches – field research, practical comparative anal-ysis, and finally, a participatory approach in the form of interviews with involved experts.

Abstract:

Text diplomovej práce sa venuje problematike vizuálneho smogu so zameraním na premnoženú reklamu vo verejnom priestore. Pozorované budú vymedzené územia mestskej časti Brna-střed a Bratislavy, v rámci ktorých budú analyzované platné regulácie reklamy. Najväčšia pozornosť práce však bude venovaná predovšetkým fenoménu manuálov, ako potencionálneho riešenia tejto problematiky, ktoré sú zavádzané v čoraz väčšom počte miest na svete. Analýza sa zameria na konkrétne manuály dobrej praxe, ktoré vznikli pre mestskú časť Brno-střed v roku 2018 a pre Bratislavu v roku 2021. Cieľom práce je zachytiť efektivitu manuálov na základe prvotnej analýzy dostupnej literatúry a relevantných zdrojov, v kombinácií s výskumom. Výskumná časť kombinuje tri prístupy – terénny výskum, praktickú komparatívnu analýzu a na záver aj participatívny prístup v podobe rozhovoru so zainteresovanými odborníkmi.
