Physiotherapeutic management of a patient with nerve and muscle injuries of the upper limb following a gunshot wound: a case report

Abstract:

Firearm injury is a traumatic event that can result in significant changes in both physical appearance and daily habits but sometimes important psychosomatic consequences may also occur. The choice to treat the rehabilitation of the patient with a gunshot wound arises from the will to highlight the importance of treatments from the first aid, in the achievement of the objectives at the end of the rehabilitation path it is opportune to begin my thesis treating the anatomy and biomechanics of the superior act, with particular attention to the median nerve that has suffered the most obvious consequences. The next step is the diagnosis of peripheral neuropathy and related treatments. Finally, will be described the clinical case of O.B. of an accidental gunshot inflicted by himself, to which I will apply a rehabilitation protocol for the recovery of motor functions.

Abstract:

La lesione da arma da fuoco rappresenta un evento traumatico che pu? determinare dei cambiamenti pi? o meno notevoli a carico del paziente sia nell'aspetto fisico che nelle abitudini quotidiane ma, talvolta, si possono manifestare anche importanti conseguenze di tipo psicosomatico. La scelta di trattare la riabilitazione del paziente con ferita da arma da fuoco scaturisce dalla volont? di mettere in evidenza l'importanza dei trattamenti, sin dal primo soccorso, nel raggiungimento degli obiettivi alla fine del percorso riabilitativo. ? opportuno iniziare la mia tesi trattando l'anatomia e la biomeccanica dell'arto superiore, con particolare attenzione al nervo mediano che ha subito le conseguenze pi? evidenti. Successivamente si passer? alla diagnosi di neuropatia periferica e ai trattamenti correlati. Infine, sar? descritto il caso clinico di O.B. vittima di uno sparo accidentale infertosi da se stesso, a cui applicher? un protocollo riabilitativo per il recupero soprattutto delle funzioni motorie.?
