Environmental History of Bastion Fortification and the FIC Josefov

Abstract:

V této práci je zkoumán soudobý konflikt zájmů ochrany přírody a kulturního dědictví v prostředí bastionové fortifikace, a to prostřednictvím environmentálně-historického zkoumání vztahu vegetace (stromy, keře, traviny) a bastionové pevnosti. Znalosti o historickém vývoji pevnostní vegetace jsou následně použity pro interpretaci případu IPM Josefov, kde byly pilotní studií identifikovány ideální představy o budoucí podobě fortifikované krajiny a pevnostní vegetace. Pro vysvětlení těchto ideálních představ jsou použity historicko-sociologické koncepty heterotopie, utopie, moci, vojenské revoluce apod. Výstupem práce je interpretace současných podob vegetace v Josefově jako výsledku dlouhodobých strukturálních historických procesů, které probíhaly v jiných pevnostech.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis investigates the conflict of interests between nature protection and cultural heritage in bastion fortification. The environmental history approach is used to examine the development of the historical relationship between vegetation (trees, shrubs, grasses) and bastion fortresses and then is used to explore the case of the FIC Josefov. Basic ideas about the future of the fortified landscape and fortress vegetation in Josefov are connected to the general historical realities of bastion fortification by sociological concepts of heterotopia, utopia, power in landscape, military revolution etc. The output of the work is the interpretation of the current forms of fortress vegetation in Josefov as a result of long-term structural and historical processes that took place in other fortresses.
