Own identity in virtual space

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá vztahem mezi reálnou a konstruovanou identitou ve virtuálních prostorech. Ztotožnění se je pro spousty, ne-li všechny, z nás důležitým aspektem individuality postmoderní doby, kde je identifikace skloňována mnohem častěji než před 10 lety. Způsoby jakými konstruujeme své další "já" jsou zásadními psychologickými obraty vnímání sebe sama v realitě a idealizované virtuální realitě. Je v ní reflektována také relevance aplikovatelnosti východních teoretických přístupů a reaguje na neoddělitelnost tělesnosti od identity. Zároveň také způsoby, jakými dochází k těmto přirozeným obratům a nabízí opěrné body, jak nahlížet na virtualitu. Výsledkem je instalace, která zkoumá mosty mezi stvořením, existencí a lidskou potřebou ztotožnění v rámci života pomocí dialogu mezi médiem autorské virtuální podoby.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis explores the relationship between real and constructed identity in virtual spaces. Identification is an important aspect of individuality for many, if not all, of us in the postmodern era, where identification is discussed much more often than just 10 years ago. The ways in which we construct our "other selves" are fundamental psychological shifts in how we perceive ourselves in reality and idealize our real selves. My work responds to our inseparable embodiment from identity, and the resulting work explores the bridges between creation, existence, and the human need for identification within life through a constructed dialogue between the medium of an authorial virtual persona. At the same time, it reflects on the ways in which these natural shifts occur and offer points of reference for how to view virtuality, while reflecting on the relevance of the applicability of Eastern theoretical approaches to authors' virtual identity.
