Abstract:

Cílem této práce je poskytnout přehled různých přístupů k teorii prototypů, která je součástí kognitivní lingvistiky. Práce začíná popisem historie této teorie, která vznikla ve druhé polovině 20. století. Vznik teorie prototypů byl nejen reakcí na nedostatky tzv. klasické teorie, ale také výsledkem experimentů a studií provedených jejími prvními proponenty. Tato práce také zkoumá základní principy teorie prototypů a způsob, jakým vysvětlují a popisují podstatu kategorií a kategorizace pojmů. K tomuto tématu se vyjádřilo mnoho lingvistů, jejichž různé perspektivy jsou prezentovány a hodnoceny. Tato práce se následně věnuje problematice konceptuální kombinace, kde se snaží zjistit, zda teorie prototypů dokáže vysvětlit vznik nových vlastností a nových prototypů kombinovaných konceptů. Představeno je několik různých a na sobě nezávislých řešení, ve kterých hlavní roli hraje vliv kontextu. Dále je analyzován dopad kultury, společnosti a znalostí světa na kategorizaci a vnímaní pojmů. Nakonec se tato práce zaměřuje na teorii prototypů v jazyce a lingvistice. Zkoumá využití tzv. „hedges“ v jazyce, aplikaci teorie prototypů na kategorizaci slovních druhů a podobnosti mezi prototypickou strukturou kategorií a vnitřní strukturou polysémních slov.

Abstract:

The goal of this thesis is to present an overview of different approaches to the Prototype Theory in cognitive linguistics. It begins by describing its history, as this theory emerged in the latter half of the 20th century as both a reaction to the limitations of the Classical Theory and as a result of experiments and studies performed by its first proponents. This thesis also examines the basic principles of the Prototype Theory, and the way they explain and describe the nature of categories of concepts, which is a highly debated topic with many perspectives on it. Subsequently, this thesis elaborates on the issue of conceptual combination and whether the Prototype Theory can account for the emergence of new features and new prototypes of combined concepts. It discusses some of the solutions that were suggested, in which the influence of context plays the main role. Next, the impact of culture, society and knowledge of the world are also analyzed. Lastly, this thesis focuses on the Prototype Theory in language and linguistics. It explores the usage of hedges in language, the application of the Prototype Theory on the categorization of word classes and the similarities between the prototypical structure and the internal structure of polysemous words.
