The relationship between the highest educational attainment and the quality of life of the citizens of Ústí nad Labem

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je určit vztah mezi nejvyšším dosaženým vzděláním a kvalitou života občanů Ústí nad Labem. Důležitost vzdělání i kvality života je zřejmá a již dostatečně zdůrazněna předchozím vědeckým výzkumem. Tato studie spojuje tyto důležité oblasti a ukazuje, jaký je mezi nimi vztah. Primární data byla získána dotazníkovým šetřením. Následné vyhodnocení dat proběhlo především formou vícenásobné lineární regresní analýzy a pomocí logistické regresní analýzy. Závislými proměnnými byly životní spokojenost (udávané štěstí), finanční příjem, spotřeba alkoholu a udávané psychické a fyzické zdraví - tedy aspekty vztahující se ke kvalitě života. Mezi nezávislé proměnné bylo zahrnuto mnoho socioekonomických faktorů - například věk, pohlaví a především nejvyšší dosažené vzdělání. Výsledky potvrdily pozitivní vztah mezi nejvyšším dosaženým vzděláním a finančním příjmem. Lze také pozorovat, že s každým vyšším stupněm vzdělání byl pozitivní vztah se závislou proměnou (finančním příjmem) silnější. Potencionální vztah byl také u spotřeby alkoholu a vysokoškolským bakalářským vzděláním. Nepotvrdil se vztah mezi vzděláním a životní spokojeností. Stejně tak se nepotvrdil vztah mezi psychickým a fyzickým zdravím. Na základě výsledků je možné formulovat konkrétní doporučení pro obyvatele Ústí nad Labem, která mohou být použitelná i pro další části populace. Závěry studie mohou také posloužit jako zpětná vazba pro vzdělávací sektor.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to determine the relationship between the highest level of education and the quality of life of citizens of Ústí nad Labem. The importance of education and quality of life is obvious and has already been sufficiently emphasized by previous scientific research. This study connects these important areas and shows the relationship between them. Primary data were obtained by a questionnaire survey. Subsequent data analysis was done mainly in the form of multiple linear regression analysis and logistic regression analysis. The dependent variables were life satisfaction (reported happiness), financial income, alcohol consumption and reported mental and physical health - aspects related to quality of life. Many socio-economic factors were included among the independent variables - such as age, gender and, almost importantly, the highest level of education attained. The results confirmed positive relationship between the highest educational attainment and financial income. It can also be observed that with each higher level of education, the positive relationship with the dependent change (financial income) is stronger. A potential relationship was also observed between alcohol consumption and college bachelor's education. The relationship between education and life satisfaction has not been confirmed. Likewise, the relationship between mental and physical health has not been confirmed. Based on the results, it is possible to formulate specific recommendations for the inhabitants of Ústí nad Labem, which may be applicable to other parts of the population as well. The conclusions of the study can also serve as feedback for the education sector.
