Ageism and quality of intergenerational relationships: secondary analysis of Eurobaromer survey

Abstract:

Práce „Ageismus a kvalita mezigeneračních vztahů: sekundární analýza dat výzkumu Eurobarometr“ se zaměřuje na souvislosti mezi ageismem a vnímanou kvalitou mezigeneračních vztahů v Evropské unii. V úvodu jsou nastíněny koncepty ageismus, generace a popsány oblasti možných mezigeneračních konfliktů. Následuje popis výzkumného souboru a sběru dat výzkumu Eurobarometr 269 (s názvem Mezigenerační solidarita) a samotná sekundární analýza dostupných dat (z archivu GESIS). Nejprve jsem vybrala sedm výroků, které naznačují špatné vnímání mezigeneračních vztahů a ageistické postoje. Použila jsem metodu faktorové analýzy a výroky se rozpadly do dvou faktorů. Ověření reliability Cronbachovým alfa neprokázalo vhodnost pro sečtení výroků, proto byly vybrány a interpretovány tři výroky. Výsledky ukázaly, že ageističtější jsou spíše starší věkové skupiny a ženy. Neprokázalo se také, že by starší společnosti byly více mezigeneračně konfliktní. Názory lidí v rámci zemí se nelišily podle různých typů sociálního státu. Rozsah práce je 72 758 znaků.

Abstract:

This thesis „Ageism and the quality of intergenerational relationships: secondary analysis of Eurobarometer survey“ is focused on connections between ageism and perceived quality of intergenerational relationships in the EU. At the beginning the concepts of ageism, generation and areas of potential intergenerational conflicts are outlined. Then description of research population and collecting the data of the Eurobarometer 269 (named Intergenerational solidarity and the secondary analysis of available data (from GESIS archive) ensue. First I chose seven statements indicating bad perception of intergenerational relationships and ageistic attitudes. Then I used factor analysis and statements splited up into two factors. Verification of reliability by Cronbach´s alpha didn´t show appropriateness for counting this statements, so three statements were chosen and interpreted. Results showed that more ageistic were rather older people and women. It didn´t showed that older societies are more intergenerational conflicting. Opinions of people didn´t variate among different types of welfare states. The extent of this thesis is 72 758 characters.
