Abstract:

Daná diplomová práce se pokouší shrnout nejvýznamnější lidské parazity ve starověku, pro které máme k dispozici dostatečné a přesvědčivé textové a/nebo archeologické prameny. Cílem je spojit informace z různých oborů, jako jsou dějiny starověku, parazitologie a archeologie, a předložit tak ucelený pohled na danou problematiku. Díky tomuto přístupu je možné vytvořit si představu o tom, (1) jak se parazit dostane ke svému hostiteli a jaké jsou jeho zdravotní důsledky, (2) do jaké míry si antičtí autoři uvědomovali skutečnou povahu parazitů a jak se jim snažili čelit a (3) v jaké fázi se nachází současné archeoparazitologické poznání.

Abstract:

This thesis attempts to summarize the most important human parasites in antiquity, for which we have sufficient and convincing textual and/or archaeological sources. The aim is to bring together information from different disciplines, such as ancient history, parasitology and archaeology, to present a comprehensive view of the subject. Through this approach, it is possible to provide an idea of (1) how a parasite reaches its host and what its health consequences are, (2) to what extent ancient authors were aware of their true nature and how they tried to counteract them, and (3) at what stage contemporary archaeoparasitological knowledge is.
