Jürgen Habermas and his concept of formal pragmatics

Abstract:

Práce si klade za cíl seznámit čtenáře s konceptem tzv. formální pragmatiky, jejž rozpracoval německý sociální filosof a představitel druhé generace Frankfurtské školy Jürgen Habermas. Formální pragmatika je v práci prezentována především jako svébytný příspěvek k tzv. teorii řečových aktů (J. L. Austin, J. R. Searle) a jako teoretický konstrukt, na jehož základech Habermas buduje svoji kritickou teorii společnosti - tzv. teorii komunikativního jednání. Pozornost je věnována nejen nekritickému představení formální pragmatiky jako takové, nýbrž také některým jejím problematickým aspektům a jejímu postavení v současném myšlení.

Abstract:

The purpose of the thesis is to make the reader acquainted with the concept of formal pragmatics, developed by German social philosopher and representative of the second generation of the Frankfurt School Jürgen Habermas. Formal pragmatics is presented there mainly as a peculiar contribution to the speech act theory (J. L. Austin, J. R. Searle) and as a theoretical framework, which forms a basis for Habermas's critical theory of society - the theory of communicative action. Attention is paid not just to a non-critical introduction of formal pragmatics as such, but also to some of its problematic aspects and its place in contemporary thinking.
