Inspiration in Selected Prosodic Aspects of Spoken Language in Musical Composition

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této práce je představit vybrané základní pojmy z prozodie – oblasti řečových věd, která se zabývá suprasegmentálními jevy v mluvené řeči – a popsat jejich potenciál stát se inspiračním zdrojem pro současného hudebního skladatele. U některých zmíněných jevů jsou stručně uvedeny ukázky z kompozic několika autorů (S. Reich, A. Sokolović, A. Temple, P. Ablinger, J. Dobiáš a další), které s nimi pracují. Největší důraz je zde z důvodů osobního kompozičního přístupu autora kladen na vlastnosti zvukového spektra řeči, jimž je v závěru věnována i celá kapitola s analýzami autorských skladeb.

Abstract:

The main aim of this thesis is to introduce selected basic concepts from prosody – the field of speech science that deals with suprasegmental phenomena in spoken language – and to describe their potential to become a source of inspiration for contemporary music composers. For some of the phenomena mentioned, examples of compositions by several authors (S. Reich, A. Sokolović, A. Temple, P. Ablinger, J. Dobiáš and others) working with them are briefly presented. The greatest emphasis is placed here on the properties of the speech spectrum, because of the author's personal compositional approach, and a whole chapter of analyses of the author's compositions is dedicated to them at the end.
