Authenticity and Plausibility in literature

Abstract:

Jazyk v podobně znakového systému nám umožňuje popsat svět, respektive realitu, ve které žijeme. Stejně tak ale skrze něj konstruujeme smyšlené a neexistující "umělé" reality. Užíváno je přitom mimo jiné strategií, které mají v recipientovi vyvolat dojem autenticity a hodnověrnosti. Cílem předkládané práce je vymezit samostatné kategorie autenticity a hodnověrnosti a poukázat na jejich principy fungování a vzájemnou relaci, a to s ohledem na literární kontext. Šíře tématu vyžaduje rozličný teoretický aparát - od poznatků sociální konstrukce reality, přes sémiotiku, až po teorii fikčních světů. Poznatky jsou uplatněny na beletristických textech Karla Pecky a George Pereca.

Abstract:

Language in the form of a symbolic system allows us to describe the world or reality in which we live. However, simultaneously, it allows us to construct imagined and non-existent “artificial” realities. To do this, we use strategies that aim to impress upon the recipient the plausibility and authenticity of the delivered message. The aim of the submitted work is to define individual categories of authenticity and plausibility, and to show their operating principles and relations to each other, specifically with reference to a literary context. The breadth of the topic requires a wide-ranging set of theoretical frameworks - from the findings of social construction of reality, to semiotics, to the theory of fictional worlds. The findings are then demonstrated on the fictional texts of Karel Pecka and George Perec.
