Vegetation mapping using MODIS data

Abstract:

Cílem bakalářské práce je sestavení map vybraných charakteristik vegetačního krytu v rozsahu střední Evropy s využitím obrazových produktů skeneru MODIS. Po podrobném prostudování produktů MODIS charakterizujících vegetaci byl jako nejvhodnější pro její mapování vybrán normalizovaný diferenční vegetační index (NDVI), s nímž byla vytvořena databáze relevantních snímků (s ohledem na časoprostorové vymezení). Tato databáze posloužila ke konečnému zhotovení map vegetačních indexů NDVI pro střední Evropu. Navíc byly sestaveny časové profily NDVI vybraných vegetačních povrchů.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to produce maps of chosen charakteristics of vegetation cover in central Europe using image products from the MODIS scanner. After a detailed review of the MODIS products characterizing vegetation, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was chosen as the most appropriate for the above mentioned vegetation mapping. An image database including all the relevant (with respect to time and space) NDVI values was created. This database then served to produce the final maps of NDVI vegetation indices for central Europe. In addition the NDVI time series of chosen vegetation types were compiled.
