Legitimacy, Citizenship, and Justice in Ancient Political Philosophy

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá obecně počátky a vývojem politické filosofie v období antiky. Práce se konkrétně zaměřuje na mapování některých konceptů z oblasti politické filosofie, jako na způsoby legitimity obce (polis), roli a důležitost občana a občanské participace pro společnost a pojetí spravedlnosti u jednotlivých vybraných filosofů a filosofických směrů v antice. Vzhledem k tomu, že tyto koncepty neexistovaly v ideovém vakuu, ale byly většinou součástí širších metafyzických, epistemologických a etických učení jednotlivých myslitelů či směrů, budu se jimi zabývat i s ohledem na jejich celkové filosofické ukotvení.

Abstract:

The master's diploma thesis generally deals with the origins and evolution of political philosophy in antiquity. The work is primarily focused on mapping and analyzing of some concepts from the field of political philosophy, as on ways of justyfying existence of polis, on the role of citizenhips and on the concept of justice as such in the thinking of selected philosophers and philosophical schools in antiquity. Due to the fact, that these concepts did not exist in the ideological vacuum, but were usually part of a broader metaphysical, epistemological and ethical teachings of selected philosophers and philosophical schools, I will deal with them with regard to their overall philosophical anchor.
