Soundwalk as a form of Sound Design

Abstract:

Má bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na fenomén soundwalku (aktu chůze ve spojení s aktivním poslechem) v umění a na příklad využití v kontextu rozšířené reality (augmented reality, dále jen AR). Text je rozdělen na tři hlavní části.
V první části se věnuji obecnému teoretickému základu soundwalku. Stručně zde popisuji původ v oblasti akustické ekologie. Věnuji se definici tohoto média, různým tvůrčím přístupům a způsobu, jakým tyto přístupy ovlivňují zkušenost a prožitek posluchače.V rámci druhé části definuji pojem AR a dále se soustředím na vymezení AAR (audio augmented reality), tedy aspektu zvuku v rozšířené realitě. Uvádím zde různé příklady využití a dále se věnuji technickým předpokladům a parametrům, které souvisí s tvorbou práce v AAR.Ve třetí části práce se věnuji soundwalku v kontextu AR. Zabývám se zde zejména technologickou stránkou (způsobem přenosu, binaurálním audiem) a kompozičním aspektem (mapováním zvuku, výběrem materiálu).Celou práci prokládám příklady konkrétních uměleckých děl, na kterých se snažím ilustrovat zkoumanou teorii.

Abstract:

My bachelor thesis focuses on the phenomenon of soundwalking (the act of walking in conjunction with active listening) in art and on the example of its use in the context of augmented reality (AR). The text is divided into two main parts.
In the first part, I discuss the general theoretical background of soundwalking. Here I briefly describe its origins in acoustic ecology. I discuss the definition of the medium, the different creative approaches, and how these approaches affect the listener's experience.In the second part, I define the concept of AR and then focus on defining AAR (audio augmented reality), an aspect of sound in augmented reality. I provide various examples of use cases and then discuss the technical prerequisites and parameters involved in creating work in AAR.In the third part of the thesis, I discuss soundwalking in the context of AR. Here I mainly deal with the technological aspect (transmission method, binaural audio) and the compositional aspect (sound mapping, material selection).The whole work is interspersed with examples of specific artworks on which I try to illustrate the theory under investigation.
