Ways of Remake: faster and better

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá americkými remaky francouzských filmů, konkrétně pak filmy Just visiting z roku 2001, režiséra Jeana-Marie Poirého a Taxi z roku 2004, režiséra Tima Storyho. Práce se nejprve zaměřuje na jejich pozici ve vymezení pojmu remake, aby je posléze zasadila do komparace s jejich filmy zdrojovými, snímky The Visitors z roku 1993, režiséra Jean-Marie Poirého a Taxi z roku 1998, režiséra Gérarda Pirèse. Tato srovnání práce reflektuje v rámci úspěchů na americkém, mimoamerickém a celosvětovém trhu, v rámci filmového stylu, filmové propagace a v poslední řadě v rámci filmové analýzy. Bylo snahou práce alespoň částečně objasnit principy, provázející úpravy filmu pro různá publika.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on American remakes of French films, in particular, on the films Just Visiting from 2001, directed by Jean-Marie Poiré and Taxi from 2004, directed by Tim Story. At first, the work concetrates on their position within the concept of remake in order to later compare them with the original sources, the films The Visitors from 1993, directed by Jean-Marie Poiré and Taxi from 1998, directed by Gérard Pirès. These comparisons are reflected in the text through their success on the American, non-American and worldwide film market, through the film style, film promotion and, at last, through the analyses of the films concerned. The author of this thesis endeavoured to at least partially clarify the principles of adapting the films for different audiences.
