Abstract:

Tato práce si klade za cíl představit poslední dokončený román Charlese Dickense Náš vzájemný přítel. První kapitola se věnuje identitě čtyř postav románu a snaží se pojmenovat archetypy, které se v něm vyskytují. Mezi tyto postavy patří protagonista John Harmon, který se skrývá pod falešným jménem John Rokesmith, jeho budoucí choť Bella Wilfer, zbohatlík Nicodemus Boffin a zahálčivý právník Eugene Wrayburn. Druhá kapitola poté rozebírá kapitál a důsledky jeho nerovnoměrné distribuce. Zaměřuje se na ty postavy, které jsou nejvíce ovlivněny penězi a majetkem a tvrdí, že tento vliv je převážně negativní. Třetí kapitola se skládá z analýzy vykoupení prostřednictvím lásky a kapitálu a předkládá důkazy o tom, že toto vykoupení není náboženského charakteru. Zaměřuje se také na vyobrazení utrpení a trestu a uzavírá příběhové linie postav zmíněných v předchozích kapitolách.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to introduce the last finished novel of Charles Dickens Our Mutual Friend. The first chapter is devoted to the identity of four characters of the novel and attempts to name the archetypes which appear in it. Among them are the protagonist John Harmon, who is in hiding under the false name of John Rokesmith, his future wife Bella Wilfer, the noveaux riche Nicodemus Boffin and the indolent lawyer Eugene Wrayburn. The second chapter analyzes capital and the implications of its uneven distribution. It focuses on such characters, who are most influenced by money and property and argues that this influence is predominantly negative. The third chapter comprises of an analysis of redemption through love and capital and presents evidence that this redemption is non-religious. It also focuses on the depiction of suffering and redemption and closes the storylines of characters mentioned in the previous chapters.
