Light and magnetic field roles in control of cell events

Abstract:

Magnetická pole a světlo jsou nedílnou součástí našeho prostředí. Mno-hé studie naznačují, že i slabá magnetická pole, často v kombinaci se světlem, mohou ovlivňovat některé buněčné děje. Tato práce shrnuje nejdůležitější poznatky z oblasti možných překryvů vlivů magnetických polí a světla na buňky a tkáně živočichů. Také se snaží spojit poznatky jak pozorovaných jevů na zvířatech, tak možných mechanismů probíha-jících na úrovni buněk. Spojení obou přístupů je důležité, zejména pro-tože studium působení slabých magnetických polí je kontroverzní. Za-tím stále nebyl dostatečně popsán žádný mechanismus, který by zpro-středkovával vliv magnetických polí. Práce poskytuje přehled součas-ného stavu, a autorka navrhuje možné experimenty, který by se mohly stát součástí její navazující práce.

Abstract:

The magnetic field and light are ubiquitous. Many studies suggest that even weak magnetic fields, often combined with light, can affect some cellular processes. This work summarizes the most significant findings in the field of a possible connection of the magnetic field’s effects and light on animal cells and tissues. This work seeks to combine both ani-mal behavioral and physiological outputs with possible cellular mecha-nisms that mediate these effects. The combination of both approaches is essential, mainly because the study of the effects of weak magnetic fields is still somewhat controversial. Any mechanism that would medi-ate the effects has not been sufficiently described yet. The work pro-vides an overview of the current state of knowledge, and the author suggests possible experiments that could become a part of her future work.
