Political and security factors as causes of Kurdish human rights violations in Turkey

Abstract:

Existuje mnoho faktorů, které vysvětlují dodržování nebo porušování lidských práv. Jednopřípadová studie zaměřující se na situaci Kurdů v Turecku od roku 2015 do současnosti zkoumá přítomnost a vliv politických a bezpečnostních faktorů na lidská práva Kurdů. Tato etnická menšina tvoří významnou část turecké populace a je vystavena neustálým represím a porušování práv. Od roku 2015 proběhlo několik důležitých událostí, které silně ovlivnily práva Kurdů. Mezi ně patří úspěšný vstup pro-kurdské Lidově demokratické strany do parlamentu, ukončení příměří a mírových jednání mezi tureckou vládou a teroristickou organizací Kurdskou stranou pracujících, neúspěšný pokus o převrat, přijetí nové ústavy a podání žádostí o zákaz politické aktivity členů Lidově demokratické strany. Politické faktory, které práce zkoumá v kontextu Kurdů v Turecku, jsou úroveň a kvalita demokracie, nezávislost soudní moci a hrozby pro ustanovený politický řád. Mezi studované bezpečnostní faktory patří občanská válka a občanská válka v sousední zemi, pokus o převrat a terorismus.

Abstract:

Many factors explain respect for or violations of human rights. A single-case study focusing on the situation of the Kurds in Turkey from 2015 to the present, examines the presence and influence of political and security factors on the Kurdish human rights. This ethnic minority forms a significant part of Turkey's population and is a subject of constant repression and rights violations. Since 2015, several important events have taken place with an impact on the rights of the Kurds. These include the successful entry of the pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party into parliament, the end of the ceasefire and peace negotiations between the Turkish government and the Kurdish terrorist organization Kurdistan Workers' Party, the failed coup attempt, the adoption of a new constitution and the submission of requests to ban the political activity of the members of the People's Democratic Party. The examined political factors regarding the Kurds in Turkey are composed of the level and quality of democracy, the independence of the judiciary, and the threats to the established political order. The security factors studied include the civil war and the civil war in a neighboring country, coup attempt, and terrorism.
