Abstract:

Práca The First Fleet and the Escape of Mary Bryant popisuje transport a život trestancov odsúdených v Británii na trest transportu do novej trestaneckej kolónie, ktorou sa stala Austrália, presnejšie Botany Bay. Taktiež sa venuje úteku Mary Bryantovej, jej manžela, detí a siedmich ďalších ľudí, ktorí sa rozhodli utiecť z kolónie, pretože sa báli, že zomrú od hladu. Práca má úvod, záver a jadro, ktoré je rozdelené na tri časti. V úvode sú opísané príčiny pre ktoré som sa rozhodla práve pre túto tému a naznačené otázky, ktorými sa práca zaoberá. Prvá časť popisuje situáciu vo Veľkej Británii, problémy s vysokou kriminalitou a proces rozhodovania sa vlády v otázke, kde by mala byť nová Britská trestanecká kolónia založena. V druhej časti popisujem transport odsúdencov do Botany Bay a ich život po príchode do novej krajiny. Tretia časť práce je venovaná úteku Mary Bryantovej a jej manžela, detí a siedmich ďalších ľudí z kolónie do Timoru, odkiaľ boli niektorí z nich následne transportovaní do Británie. V závere je zhrnutá celá práca a stručne popísaná každá časť práce a význam prvej flotily trestancov, ako základu dnešnej Austrálie.

Abstract:

The First Fleet and the Escape of Mary Bryant deals with the topic of the First Fleet convicts, their voyage to Botany Bay, the new British penal colony, and their lives there. It also describes the escape of Mary Bryant and her husband, her two children and seven other comrades from the colony. The work has an introduction, a conclusion and the main body, which is divided into three parts. In the introduction, the reasons for choosing this thesis are given and there are also stated the questions the work deals with. The first part describes the situation in Britain, problems with the extremely high rate of criminality and the process of deciding where the new penal colony should be found. In the second part the voyage to Botany Bay and the life in the settlemet are described. The third part deals with the escape of Mary Bryant, her husband, her children and seven other comrades from the settlement to Timor, from where some of them were transported back to Britain. Finally, in the conclucion the whole work is summed up and there is the importance of the First Fleet convicts for Australia described.
