Densities of sets of positive integers

Abstract:

V této dizertační práci se zabýváme některými způsoby měření velikosti podmnožin množiny přirozených čísel N. Všechny zde popisované možnosti, zvané hustoty, dávají výslednou velikost (pokud tato existuje) jako číslo z intervalu [0,1]. Hustoty množin nejsou sigmaaditivní, narozdíl např. od Lebesgueovy míry - známého prostředku pro měření velikosti množin reálných čísel. Chceme-li totiž, aby všechny jednoprvkové množiny měly stejnou velikost a dále, aby velikost množiny N byla rovna jedné, pak nemůžeme sigma-aditivity dosáhnout. Těžiště předkládané práce spočívá ve zkoumání vztahů hodnot hustot k některým jiným vlastnostem množin přirozených čísel. Dalším důležitým bodem je zde dokázání jistých rysů spojitých variant hustot, které se dají použít i pro měření podmnožin reálných čísel.

Abstract:

In this thesis we deal with some possibilities of measuring of subsets of the set of natural numbers N. All of the described methods, called densities, yield the resulting size (if this exists) of the concerned set, as a number from the interval [0,1]. Let us mention here that densities of sets are not -aditive in contrast e.g. to the Lebesgue measure, a well-known means for measuring of sets of real numbers. The reason for this is that we want all the one-element sets to have equal density and, moreover, the size of the set N to be equal to one. Therefore in these conditions, sigma-aditivity can not be reached. The focus of the presented work lies in investigation of some relationships between density values of a set and its another features. Further we are concerned with proving certain properties of continuous variants of densities, which can be also used for measuring of subsets of real numbers.
