Evaluation of breastfeeding effectiveness

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem diplomové práce bylo zhodnotit efektivitu kojení u matek třetí den po porodu při pobytu v porodnici a následně ve třetím a šestém týdnu v domácím prostředí. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo celkem 322 respondentek ze tří porodnic v České republice. Podmínkou pro zařazení do výzkumu byl ukončený 37. týden těhotenství, jednočetné těhotenství a dotazovány byly pouze kojící ženy. Pro sběr dat byl použit standardizovaný dotazník Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form (BSES-SF) a demografické údaje. Dotazník byl přeložen do češtiny a použit pro sběr dat od dubna do října 2013. Data byla zpracována statistickým programem NCSS 2007. Demografická data a další proměnné (délka kojení, položky dotazníku BSES-SF) byla vyhodnocena deskriptivní a inferenční statistikou na 5% hladině významnosti. Výsledky: Ze zjištěných sociodemografických údajů byly potvrzeny rozdíly v hodnocení efektivity kojení u rodiček podle věku, rodinného stavu a parity. Nebyl prokázán žádný vztah mezi absolvováním předporodního kurzu a efektivitou kojení. Rodičky měly největší problémy v technice kojení a psychice ve třetím dni, ve třetím týdnu převládaly problémy týkající se psychiky ženy. Dále bylo zjištěno rozdílné hodnocení efektivity kojení u rodiček podle délky kojení (p = 0.0000). Reliabilita dotazníku BSES-SF byla potvrzena Cronbachovo ? v prvním měření (0.93), ve druhém měření (0.94) a ve třetím měření (0.95). Závěr: Získané výsledky pomocí standardizovaného dotazníku BSES-SF v porovnání s demografickými údaji a mezi jednotlivými měřeními poukázaly na vhodnost využití tohoto měřícího nástroje při hodnocení efektivity kojení u kojících žen.

Abstract:

Objective: The objective of my theses was to evaluate efficacy of mothers´ breastfeeding on the third day after giving birth in a hospital and later in the third and sixth week at home. Methods: Examination sample group consisted of 322 respondents from three hospitals in the Czech Republic. The main precondition for women was that they have reached a finalised 37th week of pregnancy, had a single-birth pregnancy and have been breastfeeding. To collect the data a standardized questionnaire Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Scale-Short Form (BSES-SF) and other demographic data have been used. The questionnaire was translated into Czech and used during data collection in a period from April to October 2013. The data were processed by the statistic program NCSS 2007. Demographic data and other variables such as length of breastfeeding and questionnaire BSES-SF were evaluated by descriptive and interference statistics on the level of 5% significance. Results: From the researched sociologic and demographic data the difference between efficacy of breastfeeding mothers according to age, family status and parity were confirmed. No relation between taking a pre-natal course and breastfeeding efficacy was proven. Mothers had most difficulties regarding breastfeeding technique and some psychological issues in the third day; yet in the third week issues regarding mothers´ psyche largely prevailed. Further different efficacy of breastfeeding according to length of breastfeeding (p = 0.0000) was confirmed. Reliability of BSES-SF questionnaire was proven by Cronbach´s ? in the first measurement (0.93), in the second measurement (0.94) and in the third measurement (0.95). Conclusion: The results obtained through standardised questionnaire BSES-SF in comparison to demographic data and between individual measurements have shown suitability of the measuring instrument at evaluation of efficacy of breastfeeding women.
