Abstract:

One of the major strengths and major challenges of the Grid is its diverse nature in terms of involved hardware and software technologies. For users to be able to comfortably make use of Grid resources, it is essential they can access all resources of a particular virtual organization in the same manner. Moreover, users and their jobs should be isolated so that they cannot interact in an unwanted and unpredictable way. These are the main motivations for introducing a virtual execution environment which will encapsulate users' jobs. Virtual machines is probably the most promising background technology for such environments. This work deals with designing an execution environment for Grids based on virtual machines, its management, and access of users to it.
