Secularisation and new religions in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá analýzou pojmu sekularizace a změnami, které doprovází přechod od tradiční společnosti ke společnosti moderní. Předkládá příklady sekularizační teze a jejich kritiku. Dále se zaměřuje se na proces sekularizace v českých zemích a popisuje postavení církve během národního obrození a její pozici v novém Československém státě. Práce obsahuje pohled na náboženskou scénu ve 20. století, kdy probíhala násilná sekularizace totalitních režimů. Nakonec poukazuje na roli náboženství v současné české společnosti a na působení nových náboženských hnutí.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the analysis of the term secularization and changes that accompany the transition from traditional society to modern society. Then it presents some examples of the secularization theory and their criticism. Then it refers to the secularization process in the Czech lands. It describes the church position during the Czech National Revival and its position in the new Czechoslovak state. This part also includes the view of religious scene in the twentieth century, when there was violent secularization by the totalitarian regimes. Finally, it refers to the religious role among the contemporary Czech society and to the influence of new religious movements.
