Value investing in crisis hit sectors

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je aplikací metod hodnotového investování na vybraný akciový titul s cílem identifikovat slabé a silné stránky akciového titulu v dané ekonomické situaci. První část práce definuje hodnotové investování, přibližuje jeho smysl a užitek čtenáři a věnuje se fundamentální analýze a teorii efektivních trhů. V práci se nachází i zhodnocení a výčet odvětví kriticky zasažených pandemií a jejich potenciální vyhlídky. Po vymezení a vysvětlení náležitostí hodnotového investování a pohledu na makroekonomickou situaci se práce zaobírá reálnými metodami valuace společnosti, od modelů pracujících s metodou diskontovaných peněžních toků, přes výpočet nákladů na kapitál, ukazatelů rizika, až po P/E ukazatel. V části druhé, praktické se nadále pracuje s poznatky z teoretické části. Na základě analýzy dat je vybrána společnost Ezcorp, jejíž valuace na základě finančních ukazatelů je srovnána s tržní cenou. Společnost je taktéž vystavena benchmarkingu s odvětvím, kde je srovnávána a hodnocena ve vztahu ke své konkurenci. Závěr práce hodnotí akcii společnosti jako investiční příležitost s jejími silnými i slabými stránkami. Bude vytvořena i predikce budoucího vývoje ceny na základě fundamentální analýzy.

Abstract:

The goal of the Bachelor thesis is to select a publicly traded stock that trades below its current value due to the unpopularity of the sector it belongs to. The first part defines value investing, shows its purpose and meaning to the reader, and describes fundamental analysis. After the introduction to value investing, the thesis provides an insight into concrete valuation methods, ranging from models of DCF, WACC, risk ratios through the P/E ratio, and more. The second part uses the theoretical background to evaluate a particular stock. Based on the analysis the company Ezcorp is selected, which is evaluated by the methods introduced in the first part of the thesis. Once the value is estimated, it is confronted with the market value. The value is compared to the values of the company’s market competitors. The conclusion presents the stock as an investment opportunity with its advantages and disadvantages as well as a forecast of the stock’s price.
