Use of GIS for visualisation of the health-care data

Abstract:

Tématem diplomové práce je využití geografických informačních systémů při vizualizaci zdravotnických dat. Zaměřuje se především na mapové výstupy které se prezentují veřejnosti v době, kdy probíhá snaha o digitalizaci celého sektoru zdravotnictví. Cílem této práce bylo vytvořit analýzu jednotlivých institucí, které pracují se zdravotnickými daty a prezentují je, a dále zjistit, do jaké míry využívají geografické informační systémy. S ohledem na tuto analýzu byly vytvořeny tři návrhy projektů, jež mají za cíl tuto problematiku zlepšit. Teoretická část se zabývá geografickými informačními systémy obecně, jejich technickou stránkou a v neposlední řadě jejich aplikací v oboru zdravotnictví. V samotné analýze byl použit kvantitativní i kvalitativní způsob výzkumu a výsledná data byla vyhodnocena. Tvorba projektů probíhala pomocí opensource programu QGIS3. V průběhu práce byla zjištěna velká nedostatečnost při vizualizaci zdravotnických dat. Krajské úřady i Ústav zdravotnických informací a statistiky nevyužívaly mapové výstupy ani čtvrtiny svých výstupů. Zároveň byla zjištěna nedostatečná standardizace výstupů Krajských úřadů i Krajských hygienických stanic. Zjištěné nedostatky proto mohou být námětem na další vědecké práce.

Abstract:

The topic of this master thesis is the use of geographic information systems in the visualization of healthcare data. It focuses mainly on map outputs that are presented to the public, at a time when there is an ongoing effort to digitize the entire healthcare sector. The aim of this thesis was to create an analysis of different institutions that work with health data and present them, to find out to what extent they use geographic information systems. With this analysis in mind, three project proposals were then developed to improve this issue. The theoretical part deals with geographic information systems in general, their technical aspects and, last but not least, their application in the healthcare sector. In the analysis itself, both quantitative and qualitative research methods were used, and the resulting data were evaluated. The creation of the projects was carried out using the opensource program QGIS3. During the course of the work, a major deficiency was identified in the visualization of healthcare data. The regional authorities and the Institute of Health Information and Statistics did not use map outputs for even a quarter of their outputs. At the same time, insufficient standardization of outputs of both Regional Offices and Regional Health Stations was found. Thus, the identified shortcomings may be a topic for further scientific work.
