The Relation of Mindfulness, Attachment, and Partnership Satisfaction among Young Adults

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá vztahem mezi všímavostí, citovou vazbou v dospělosti a spokojeností v partnerském vztahu. Jsou zde ověřovány dílčí předpoklady k domněnce, že prostřednictvím kultivace všímavosti lze dosáhnout rozvinutí jistější citové vazby v partnerském vztahu a zvýšit spokojenost v partnerství. Výzkum byl koncipován kvantitativně, zúčastnilo se ho 516 osob ve věku 20 až 31 let. Data byla získána prostřednictvím internetového dotazníku, byly použity české verze škál FFMQ – Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire; ECR-RS – The Relationships Structures Questionnaire; KMSS - Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale. Hlavní analýza ověřovala vztahy mezi všímavostí, vyhýbavostí a úzkostností a spokojeností v partnerství. Statistická analýza potvrdila souvislost dimenzí citové vazby s všímavostí a spokojeností ve vztahu. Všímavost měla silnější vztah s úzkostností než vyhýbavostí, celkově měla silnější vztah s citovou vazbou k partnerovi než k rodičům. Styl citové vazby se lišil vůči jednotlivým postavám a predikoval spokojenost ve vztahu, citová vazba byla mediátorem vztahu mezi všímavostí a spokojeností se vztahem. Bylo také potvrzeno, že pravidelná meditace významně souvisí s vysokou mírou všímavosti. Výsledky poskytly důležité podklady pro další výzkum, který by se mohl longitudinálně zabývat efekty intervence kultivace všímavosti na citovou vazbu a spokojenost v partnerství.

Abstract:

This thesis investigates the relationship between mindfulness, attachment in adulthood and satisfaction in romantic relationship. It examines assumptions to the theory that through enhancement of mindfulness, both secure attachment to romantic partner and relationship satisfaction can be increased. The research design was quantitative. 516 respondents in age between 20 and 31 years were involved in online survey. The questionnaire contained Czech versions of FFMQ – Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, ECR-RS – The Relationships Structures Questionnaire and KMSS - Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale. Main analysis tested the relationships between mindfulness, avoidance and anxiety in attachment, and relationship satisfaction. Statistic analysis confirmed the relationship between attachment and mindfulness as well as relationship satisfaction. Mindfulness was more strongly correlated with anxiety than avoidance, it was also more strongly correlated to attachment to romantic partner than to parents. Attachment styles differed between relationships to romantic partner and to parents, and predicted relationship satisfaction. Attachment was a mediator to relationship between mindfulness and satisfaction. It was confirmed that regular meditation practise is associated with high level of mindfulness. The results provide important information for future research, which could investigate effects of mindfulness intervention on attachment and relationship satisfaction in longitudinal way.
