Nietzsche's Music, Music's Nietzsche. Musicality in the Works of Friedrich Nietzsche.

Abstract:

Hudba byla nedílnou součástí života Friedricha Nietzscheho již od jeho útlého věku, kdy se z vlastní iniciativy učil na piano a začal psát své první skladby. Vztahy, které v životě měl, byly velice úzce spojené s hudbou (příkladem je jak přátelství s Richardem Wagnerem, tak s Lou Salomé či Heinrichem Köselitzem). Je tedy pochopitelné, že hudba a její vnímání měly obrovský vliv nejen na stylistiku a formu Nietzscheho tvorby, avšak stejně velký, ba dokonce větší dopad měly na Nietzscheho myšlení samotné. Cílem této práce je dvojí: (1.) zachytit vliv a význam hudby pro Nietzscheho, jeho estetické názory a jejich proměny od Zrození tragédie až po pozdní tvorbu; (2.) na tomto základě vyložit muzikalitu myšlení Friedricha Nietzscheho jakožto filosoficky relevantní a určující prvek jeho filosofického stylu. V této práci provedeme analýzu kompletního Nietzscheho díla, budeme se soustředit nejen na texty přímo se vztahující k hudbě (pro splnění prvního úkolu), ale i konceptuální strategie, které se objevují v ostatních knihách a fragmentech. Koncept muzikality jako filosofického stylu bude konzultován a diskutován se současnou sekundární literaturou k tomuto tématu.

Abstract:

Music was an integral part of Friedrich Nietzsche's life from an early age when he learned the piano on his own initiative and began to write his first compositions. The relationships he had in his life were very closely linked to music (examples include his friendships with Richard Wagner, Lou Salomé, and Heinrich Köselitz). It is understandable, then, that music and its perception not only had an enormous influence on the style and form of Nietzsche's work, but had an equally great, if not greater, impact on Nietzsche's thinking itself. The aim of this paper is twofold: (1.) to capture the influence and importance of music for Nietzsche, his aesthetic views, and their transformations from The Birth of Tragedy to his later work; (2.) on this basis, to interpret the musicality of Friedrich Nietzsche's thought as a philosophically relevant and defining element of his philosophical style. In this paper, we will analyse Nietzsche's complete works, focusing not only on texts directly related to music (to accomplish the first task), but also on conceptual strategies that appear in other books and fragments. The concept of musicality as a philosophical style will be consulted and discussed with contemporary secondary literature on the subject.
