Impacts of the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and Vietnam for the Czech agriculture and food industry

Abstract:

Dohoda o volném obchodu mezi Evropskou unií a Vietnamem (EVFTA) by měla výrazně zjednodušit obchodní podmínky mezi členskými státy Evropské unie a Vietnamem, a tím více otevřít vietnamský trh i pro české exportéry. Cílem diplomové práce je vyhodnotit potenciální příležitosti a rizika, které vyplývají z liberalizační obchodní dohody, na české zemědělství a potravinářství. Práce hodnotí vývojové tendence agrárního zahraničního obchodu mezi Evropskou unií (a v rámci toho Českou republikou) a Vietnamem v období mezi lety 2000 – 2020. Konkrétně se zaměřuje na posouzení celkové dynamiky agrárního obchodu, vývoj teritoriální a zbožové struktury a vzájemné komplementarity agrárního obchodu těchto zemí. Z metodického hlediska jsou využity jak klasické nástroje analýzy zahraničního obchodu, tak i strukturované rozhovory s podnikatelskými subjekty českého agrobyznysu. Z výsledků vyplývá, že země se při vzájemném obchodu poměrně doplňují. EVFTA nepředstavuje pro české zemědělství a potravinářství výrazná rizika, naopak přináší exportní příležitosti pro některá zemědělsko-potravinářská odvětví.

Abstract:

Free trade agreement between the European Union and Vietnam (EVFTA) should make the trading conditions for the countries of the European union and Vietnam significantly easier and thereby open the Vietnamese market even for Czech exporters. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate what potential benefits and risks for the Czech agriculture and food industry will the liberalization of the free trade result of. The thesis is evaluating the development tendency of the agri-food trade flows between the European union (including the Czech Republic) and Vietnam within the years 2000 - 2020. It is particualry focusing on assessing of the overall dynamic of the agri-food trade flows, development of the teritorial and commodity structure and mutual complementarity of the agri-food trade flows of mentioned countries. From the metodical point of view there are classical instruments of analysis of foreign trade as well as structured interviews with business subjects of the Czech agribusiness being used. The results show that the countries within the mutual trade are relatively complementing each other. EVFTA is not posing a risk for the Czech agriculture and food industry on the contrary it is providing export opportunities for some agri-food sector.
