Inter faeces et urinam purgamus. Viennese Actionism as a Faxensyndrom in the Post-War Austria

Abstract:

V disertační práci Inter faeces et urinam purgamus. Vídeňský akcionismus jako faxensyndrom poválečného Rakouska se pokouším zodpovědět otázku, jakými faktory byla modelována geneze, sociální, politická a kulturní (ne)účinnost tvorby rakouské umělecké skupiny, známé v diskurzu moderního umění jako vídeňský akcionismus. Domnívám se, že tvorba předních představitelů polymorfního kulturního fenoménu, Hermanna Nitsche (1938), Otto Muehla (1925-2013), Güntera Bruse (1938) a Rudolfa Schwarzkoglera (1940-1969), je modelována kulturními narativy, vevázanými především v jazykové a řečové struktury, jež se akcionisté pokoušejí překročit v regresivním pohybu k méně strukturovaným matricím, a to jak na společenské, tak na umělecké úrovni. Výsledkem je tak ritualizace a kultizace umění, namísto mluvy nastupují neartikulované skřeky, namísto předmětnosti v malířství informel, namísto strukturovaných architektur dramatu automatické psaní. Namísto řádu jazyka, řád činu. Touto regresí vyjadřují touhu po znovuobnovení hodnotového systému v zemi, jež se roku 1918 zrodila traumatem rozpadu monarchie. Roku 1934 se trauma vrátilo nástupem austrofašismu, a v další generaci jako neléčená neuróza na začátku 60. let. v době, kdy naši umělci začínají tvořit. Jejich tvorba je útokem na zvnějšku konstruovaný řád sebepotvrzujících autorit: těmi jsou pro ně na počátku psychické vývojové fáze matka a otec, později tento regulativ přebírá společenské Nadjá. Pokud je tvořeno, jako v případě rakouské společnosti, fašistickou mentalitou, jak ji analyzoval a definoval německý sociolog Klaus Theweleit roku 1977 ve své knize Männerphantasien, je toto Nadjá sobecké, plné reiteračního násilí a narativů ženy, podřízené muži, a muže silného a nezranitelného heterosexuála. Mentalita a emocionalita fašistického muže formovala emocionalitu akcionistů, kteří se proti níž vzepřeli. A vzepřeli se tím, co fašistický muž nesnášel nejvíce: výkaly, krev a sperma. Proto působily jejich akce tak šokujícím způsobem, a přesto nebyly namířeny proti společenskému řádu, ale naopak jej měli potvrzovat. Svou úlohu tzv. obětního beránka, na něhož by rakouská společnost svedla vinu za vracející se trauma, ale nesplnili, protože svou regresivní tendencí se vyjadřovali společnosti nesrozumitelným jazykem.

Abstract:

In my dissertation Thesis, Inter faeces et urinam purgamus. Viennese actionism as a faxensyndrome of post-war Austria I attempt to answer the question of what factors modeled the genesis, social, political and cultural in/effectivness of the creation of the Austrian art group, known in the discourse of modern art as Viennese actionism. I believe that the work of leading figures of the polymorphic cultural phenomenon, Hermann Nitsch (1938), Otto Muehl (1925-2013), Günter Brus (1938) and Rudolf Schwarzkogler (1940-1969), is modeled by cultural narratives, linked mainly in linguistic and speech structures that shareholders try to transcend in regression to less structured matrices, both at the social and artistic levels. The result is the ritualization and cultication of art, instead of speaking, inarticulate screams, instead of figuration in informal painting, instead of structured architectures of the drama of automatic writing. Instead of the order of language, the order of action. By this regression, they express the desire to restore the value system in the country, which was born in 1918 by the trauma of the collapse of the monarchy. In 1934, trauma returned with the onset of Fatherland Front, and in the next generation as an untreated neurosis in the early 1960s. at a time when our artists are beginning to create. Their work is an attack on the externally constructed order of self-affirming authorities: for them, at the beginning of the psychic developmental phase, they are the mother and father, later this regulation is taken over by the social Super-ego. If it is formed, as in the case of Austrian society, by a fascist mentality, as analyzed and defined by the German sociologist Klaus Theweleit in his book Männerphantasien in 1977, this Ego is selfish, full of reiterative violence and narratives of women, subordinates and men. The mentality and emotionality of the fascist man shaped the emotionality of the shareholders who rebelled against it. And they resisted what the fascist man hated most: feces, blood, and semen. That is why their actions seemed so shocking, and yet they were not directed against the social order, but on the contrary were to confirm it. However, they did not fulfill their role of the so-called scapegoat, on whom Austrian society would blame for the recurring trauma, because their regressive tendencies expressed themselves to society in an incomprehensible/secret language.
