Portrayals of the Nation of Islam in American Film
Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to analyse the portrayals of Black Muslims in American film through predetermined themes. In selected movies, it follows the theme of violence and crime that the main or minor character gets involved with, often due to the influence of his surroundings. Cílem této práce je rozbor vyobrazení Černých muslimů v americkém filmu skrze předem stanovená témata. Ve vybraných filmech sleduje nejdříve téma násilí a zločinu, do kterého se hlavní nebo vedlejší postava zaplete často vlivem svého okolí. Setkání s islámským náboženstvím odhaluje dané postavě nové možnosti a nabízí východisko ze zdánlivě beznadějné situace. Tato duchovní přeměna pomáhá postavě v …more
