Micro-hollow dielectric barrier discharge for surface treatments

Abstract:

V práci jsme se zaměřili na plazmový výboj s unikátní konfigurací, tzv. mikrodutinový dielektrický bariérový výboj, a zkoumali, jak se změní povrchové vlastnosti křemíku po aplikaci plazmatu. Abychom si z našich experimentů vytvořili ucelenější závěr, diagnostikovali jsme vzorek několika metodami. Základní přehled o hydrofilizaci či hydrofobizaci povrchu nám poskytlo měření kontaktních úhlů a určování povrchové energie dvoukapalinovou Owens-Wendtovou metodou. Kontaktní úhly vody a diiodometanu jsme proměřovali v závislosti na vzdálenosti křemíkového waferu od keramiky výbojky či na času plazmové úpravy. Zajímalo nás také, dostaneme-li kvalitativně odlišné výsledky, jestliže změníme některé další parametry experimentu, tj. zapálíme plazma s průtokem plynu nebo použijeme zdroj o nižším příkonu. Ve všech těchto případech jsme pozorovali snižování kontaktních úhlů a zvyšování zejména polární složky povrchové energie už při krátké době plazmové úpravy (1 s), přičemž nejvýrazněji se tento efekt projevil při přímém kontaktu vzorku s keramikou výbojky. Podrobnější informace o složení a struktuře plazmatem modifikovaného povrchu nám sdělilo použití rentgenové fotoelektronové spektroskopie (XPS) a mikroskopie atomárních sil (AFM). Pomocí laserem indukované fluorescence (LIF) jsme zase odhalili, jaké je zastoupení a rozložení OH radikálů ve výboji.

Abstract:

In this work, the novel micro-hollow dielectric barrier discharge was studied. We investigated how the surface properties of silicon will change after plasma treatment and we examined silicon samples using several experimental methods in order to obtain comprehensive conclusions of the experiment. A fundamental overview of hydrophilization or hydrophobization of the surface was determined from the contact angles measurement and the calculation of surface energy using two-liquid Owens-Wendt method. The water and diiodomethane contact angles were measured depending on the distance of the silicon sample from the ceramics or the treatment time. We also investigated the quality of other parameters of our experiment, such as igniting plasma with gas flow or using a lower power source. In all these cases, the decrease of water contact angles and the increase of the polar component of surface energy was observed at a very short treatment time (1 s). The most notable effect was observed when the sample was in the direct contact with dielectric barrier discharge surface. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements provided more detailed information about the composition and structure of the plasma modified surface. Laser induced fluorescence (LIF) showed the distribution of OH radicals in the micro-hollow discharge.
