The impact of the participation of two-year-old racing horses on the length of their racing career

Abstract:

Tématem, kterým se zabývám v diplomové práci je vliv účasti dvouletých dostihových koní na délku jejich dostihové kariéry. Práce se v první části zabývá obecným popisem anglického plnokrevníka. Jeho historií a vývojem, zásadami přípravy mladých koní do dostihů a jeho vlivem na nevyspělost v provozu dostihů. Krátce jsem popsala historii dostihů, jejich soustavy a kategorie, a v poslední části jsem vysvětlila dostihový sport v České republice a Jockey club. Ve druhé části práce objasňuji, jak a kde jsem získala potřebná data pro hodnocení, a také jaké metody jsem v práci použila. V nejdůležitější části práce popisuji charakteristiku sledovaného souboru a u následujících výsledku jsem statisticky a korelačně zjišťovala průkaznost vybraných vlivů a porovnatelnost v jednotlivých letech. Při vyhodnocování a diskutováni jsme dospěly k porovnání počtu startů ve dvou letech s celkovým počtem startů koně i s délkou kariéry koně, kdy v obou případech dosahují korelační koeficienty nízké úrovně kladných hodnot. U porovnání zisku dotací ve dvou letech a celkovým ziskem za celou kariéru jsme zjistily, že zisky dotací za celou kariéru spolu korelují, což dokazuje, že úspěšní koně ve dvou letech potvrzují svoji kvalitu i po celou dostihovou kariéru. Další část práce se týká vlivu celkového zisku a vlivu délky kariéry na shodné faktory. Nejvíce průkazný vliv celkového zisku se ukázal faktor země původu koně a pohlaví koně. Nejvýkonnější koně byli původem z Anglie a Irska, a nejvýkonnější koně byli samozřejmě hřebci. Vliv pohlaví na délku dostihové kariéry se ukázal jako průkazný, kdy valaši startují nejdéle.

Abstract:

The topic discussed in the diploma thesis is the impact of the participation of two-year-old racing horses on the length of their racing career. At first, general information about the breed Thoroughbred is provided – its history and development, how young horses are trained for racing and impact of using immature horses in racing. The history of horse racing is shortly described, types of racing and racing systems are defined and then sport horse racing in the Czech Republic and Jockey Club are explained. The following part provides information about the data used in the study – how and where were the data obtained and what are the methods used in their analysis. The crucial part of the thesis provides characteristics of the monitored sample and the data results were statistically and correlatively tested to see if they support premises when the factors were compared among different ages. In evaluating and discussing the data, the number of starts in two years was compared with the total number of starts of the horse and the length of the horse's career and a conclusion has been drawn that in both cases the correlation coefficients reach a low level of positive values. If the ability to achieve profitable prize money is compared at the age of two years with overall profit during the career, the study shows that these money prizes correlate during the whole life of the horses, which proves that if the horses are profitable at the age of two, they will remain profitable during their whole racing career. The next chapter deals with the influence of overall profit and the lengths of career on shared factors. The country of origin and sex of the horse proved to have the biggest impact on the profits. Horses reaching the best performance were originally from England and Ireland and stallions (male horses). The sex of the horse was also related to the length of their careers as the geldings racing careers were the longest.
