Belief in a just world as a predictor of political orientation

Abstract:

Práce zkoumá vztah víry ve spravedlivý svět a politické orientace. Vztah těchto konceptů je blíže rozebrán a je uvážen vliv dalších psychologických konstruktů – politické efficacy a politické důvěry. Výzkum analyzuje model vztahů mezi těmito koncepty na vzorku respondentů ve věku 18 až 20 let (N = 215). Výsledky naznačují, že politická orientace je vírou ve spravedlivý svět ovlivněna jen málo, přičemž tento vliv je zprostředkován politickou důvěrou. Dalším významným zjištěním je, že víra v nespravedlivý svět má ve vztahu k politické orientaci v české společnosti stejný význam jako víra ve spravedlivý svět, jen opačný, což je v rozporu se závěry zahraničních výzkumů.

Abstract:

The thesis examines the relationship between belief in a just world and political orientation. The relationship of these concepts is closely analyzed and influence of other psychological constructs is considered – namely the influence of political efficacy and political trust. The research analyzes a model of relationships among these concepts on a sample of respondents in age of 18 to 20 years (N = 215). The results imply that the political orientation is weakly influenced by the belief in a just world and that this influence is mediated by political trust. Another important finding is that in the Czech society the belief in an unjust world has the same yet opposite influence on the political orientation as the belief in a just world, which is contrary to the findings of foreign studies.
