Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na výslovnost angličtiny u nerodilých mluvčích. Konkrétně se práce zabývá rodilými mluvčími češtiny, slovenštiny a maďarštiny a rozdíly v jejich výslovnosti v angličtině. Předpokládá se, že výslovnost v druhém jazyku je značně ovlivněna výslovností jazyka mateřského. Cílem této práce je tedy zjistit, do jaké míry je výslovnost v druhém jazyce ovlivňována mateřským jazykem a také je-li možné správně určit mateřský jazyk konkrétního mluvčího pouze na základě jeho výslovnosti v angličtině. První kapitola objasňuje důležitost angličtiny jakožto světového jazyka a také přibližuje některé problémy s učením anglické výslovnosti, se kterými se mohou potýkat cizinci následkem vlivu mateřského jazyka. Další kapitola se zaměřuje na anglický systém hlásek, sloužící jako vzor, ke kterému jsou přirovnávány hláskové systémy ostatních jazyků. V celé práci je používána varianta Received Pronunciation. Třetí a čtvrtá kapitola popisuje hláskové systémy tří jazyků, jejichž mluvčí tato práce studuje. Zároveň tyto kapitoly poukazují na nejzásadnější rozdíly mezi angličtinou a dalšími třemi studovanými jazyky, přičemž slovenština a čeština jsou popisovány zároveň, neboť jsou si navzájem velmi podobné. Výzkum je zaměřen na anglickou výslovnost šesti fotbalistů působících v anglických klubech – dvou Čechů, dvou Slováků a dvou Maďarů. 15 studentů druhého ročníku vysoké školy v oboru anglický jazyk a literatura bylo požádáno, aby ohodnotilo výslovnost angličtiny u těchto mluvčích a také aby se pokusilo určit jejich národnost. Hlavním cílem výzkumu v této práci je schopnost studentů určit mateřský jazyk jednotlivých mluvčích pouze na základě jejich výslovnosti v angličtině a zároveň jak je tato schopnost ovlivněna tím, do jaké míry je jejich mluva vnímána jako plynulá, cize znějící či srozumitelná.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the pronunciation of English in non-native speakers. It studies specifically Czech, Slovak and Hungarian speakers and the differences in their pronunciation of English from the standard. It is assumed that the pronunciation of a second language is largely influenced by the mother tongue of the speaker. The aim of the thesis is to find out to what extent the mother tongue influences the pronunciation of the second language and if it is possible to detect the mother tongue of a certain speaker based on their pronunciation of English The first chapter outlines the importance of English as a global language and explains some of the problems English pronunciation learners may have as a result of the influence of the mother tongue. The following chapter focuses on the English sound system which functions as a muster to which the sound systems of the other languages are compared, using Received Pronunciation as the basis. The sound systems of the three languages studied in the thesis are described in the third and fourth chapters. The most important differences in the English sound system as opposed to Hungarian as well as to Czech and Slovak, which are described simultaneously for their similarity, are pointed out in these chapters. The research focuses on six speakers – two Czechs, two Slovaks and two Hungarians. 15 second-year university students of English then assess their pronunciations and also try to guess their nationality based on it. The primary focus of the research is on finding out if it is possible for the students to guess the nationality of the individual speakers and how this ability is affected by different degrees of proficiency, foreignness or intelligibility.
