Configuring Failover Cluster

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou vysoce dostupných klastrů na platformě Linux. Jsou popsány informace z oblasti použití klastrů a jejich provozu. Teoretická část popisuje počítačové klastry, typy a význam jejich použití. V úvodu praktické části práce je popsán návrh failover klastru tvořený nástroji Pacemaker a Corosync na Red Hat forku a struktura těchto nástrojů. Obsažen je také popis linuxových distribucí a konkrétněji vysvětlena Red Hat virtualizace. Ve čtvrté kapitole je popsán návrh, instalace a konfigurace jednotlivých uzlů klastru a serveru, který poskytuje klastru sdílené úložiště. Poslední část čtvrté kapitoly se věnuje experimentálním testům, které mají za cíl ověřit navržený failover klastr a otestovat dostupnost služeb, které klastr spravuje. Jako služba byl spuštěn webserver napojený na databázi, jako nejčastější příklad implementace na failover klastru. Poslední kapitola se zabývá možným rozšířením této práce například zabezpečením celého řešení.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with issue of highly available clusters on the Linux platform. Thesis describes informations about the use of cluster and their service. The theoretical part describes computer clusters, types, and their use. The introduction of the practical part describes the design of a failover cluster consisting of Pacemaker and Corosync tools on the Red Hat fork and the structure of these tools. A description of Linux distributions and more speciffically Red Hat virtualization, is also included. The fourth chapter describes the design, installation and configuration of individual cluster nodes and the server that provides shared storage to the cluster. The last part of the fourth chapter deals with experimental tests, which aim to verify the proposed failover cluster and test the availability of services that the cluster manages. A webserver connected to the database was launched as a service, as the most common example of a failover cluster implementation. The last chapter deals with possible extensions of this work, such as securing the whole solution.
