Jewish Galicia like cultural and literature area

Abstract:

Diplomová práce představuje obraz židovské Haliče skrze literaturu, která o tomto území pojednávala. Historické území Haliče prošlo během svých dějin mnohými změnami a působily zde rozličné vlivy, které měly ať již velký, či nepatrný dopad na další vývoj tohoto teritoria a samozřejmě zde žijících obyvatel. Je tedy zajímavé sledovat osudy lidí spjatých s tímto prostorem a na základě nich si udělat představu o životě Židů, který nebyl v tomto regionu vždy jednoduchý. Práce je rozdělena na několik kapitol vztahujících se k židovské Haliči. První část je zaměřena na stručný obecný přehled dějin Haliče. Další kapitola se již konkrétněji specifikuje na problematiku Židů v Haliči. Podstatnou část tvoří, jak již bylo výše zmíněno, židovská literatura spjatá s tímto regionem, která byla psána ve čtyřech jazycích, a sice v jidiš, němčině, polštině a ruštině. Pod každou touto kategorií jsou představeni významní spisovatelé židovského původu, kteří buď zde žili, nebo emigrovali a ve vzpomínkách psali o své rodné zemi. Nesmíme opomenou ani hnutí chasidismus, které se zrodilo právě v Haliči a mělo zde silné zastoupení svých přívrženců. Poukázání na otázku židovské Haliče je o to zajímavější, neboť se v podstatě jedná o zaniklý svět východoevropských Židů, jejichž území je dnes rozděleno mezi Polsko a Ukrajinu.

Abstract:

Diploma Thesis presents a picture of Jewish Galicia through a literature that described this area. Historical region of Galicia has undergone many changes during its history and experienced various influences with either crucial or minute impact on the further development of this territory, and of course its population. It is therefore interesting to study stories of the people connected with this area and to form an idea of life of Jews that was not always simple in this region. The work is divided into several chapters referring to the Jewish Galicia. The first part is focused on a brief general overview of the history of Galicia. Next chapter is specifically concentrated on the issue of Jews in Galicia. As mentioned above, a substantial part is formed by a Jewish literature connected with the region, which was written in four languages - Yiddish, German, Polish, and Ukrainian (Russian). Each category introduces famous writers of Jewish origin, who either lived in or emigrated from Galicia, and in the memoirs wrote about their country of birth. We must not neglect also a Chassidism movement which originated in Galicia, and had a strong representation of its adherents here. Highlighting the issue of Jewish Galicia is particularly interesting, as in essence, it is a lost world of Eastern European Jews, whose territory is now divided between Poland and Ukraine.
