Concept of Evil in Work of Paul Ricoeur and Late Augustin

Abstract:

Náplní bakalářské práce je prozkoumání pojetí prvotního hříchu, jeho dopadu a dalšího působení. V první části se pokusíme vymezit naše pole působnosti a nastínit pojetí zla v mytologii, kde budeme sledovat jeho vývoj. V Augustinově nauce je naše pozornost zaměřena především na jeho uchopení milosti i svobodné vůle v rámci konání a působení hříchu. Pojetí Paula Ricoeura nás se stejnou problematikou seznámí z jiného hlediska. Nahlédneme na uchopení prvotního hříchu skrze symboliku, jež nakonec poslouží i jako obhajoba a podpora Augustinovy nauky. Provázanost obou postojů je více načrtnuta v samotném závěru práce.

Abstract:

The subject of the thesis is an examination of the concept of original sin, its impact and further effect. In the first part we attempt to outline our area of interest and characterise the concept of evil in mythology, where we will follow its development. In the teachings of Augustine our attention will focus primarily on his understanding of grace and freewill in the context of the commission and effect of sin. Paul Ricoeur's concept acquaints us with the same matter from a different aspect. We look at the understanding of original sin through symbolism, which in the end also serves as a defence and support for the teachings of Augustine. The linkage of both standpoints is described in greater detail in the very conclusion to the thesis.
