Taxonomy and systematics of the jumping plant-lice of the family Phacopteronidae (Hemiptera: Psylloidea)

Abstract:

Phacopteronidae Heslop-Harrison, 1958 (1906) je jednou z menších a dosud málo známých čeledí mer (Insecta: Hemiptera: Psylloidea). Tato disertační práce se zabývá revizí její systematiky a taxonomie a vyhodnocuje dostupné údaje, týkající se hostitelských rostlin a rozšíření jednotlivých druhů. Phacopteronidae je v kontextu nadčeledi Psylloidea nově definována na základě rozboru světové fauny a morfologických znaků dospělců i larev. Zahrnuje pět platných rodů s celkem 68 druhy. Z toho dva rody a 47 druhů jsou pro vědu nově popisovány a pro 12 druhů byly zhotoveny redeskripce. Práce obsahuje diagnózy všech rodů. Morfologické popisy jsou ilustrovány celkem 619 originálními perokresbami a fotografiemi. Nově je navrženo šest synonym (jedno jméno skupiny čeledi, dvě jména skupiny rodu a tři jména skupiny druhu) a osm nových kombinací. Pro studium fylogenetických vztahů uvnitř čeledi byla použita kladistická metodologie. Monofylie Phacopteronidae je podpořena šesti synapomorfickými znaky dospělců, z nichž tři jsou nově definovány a dva, použité dřívějšími autory pro diagnózu rodu Pseudophacopteron Enderlein, 1921, jsou demonstrovány jako synapomorfie na úrovni celé čeledi. Phacopteronidae je rozšířena v tropech celého světa přibližně mezi 30° s. š. and 30° j. š. a je tak zastoupena ve všech hlavních tropických biogeografických oblastech. Původní hostitelskou asociací Phacopteronidae je rostlinný řád Sapindales (= Rutales), s jehož různými čeleděmi je svázána většina druhů. Výjimku tvoří devět druhů rodu Pseudophacopteron, které se vyvíjejí na čeledi Apocynaceae z řádu Gentianales. Uceleně je revidována fauna Phacopteronidae afrotropické oblasti, zahrnující celkem 31 současně známých druhů, pro jejichž dospělce a larvy jsou též připraveny určovací klíče. Larvy některých druhů Phacopteronidae žijí na hostitelských rostlinách volně, jiné vytvářejí otevřené jamkovité či uzavřené oříškovité hálky. Různé způsoby života larev jsou představeny na příkladu fauny Phacopteronidae Kamerunu.

Abstract:

The Phacopteronidae Heslop-Harrison, 1958 (1906) is one of the smaller and so far little known families of Psylloidea. This dissertation thesis reviews its systematics and taxonomy and examines available host-plant and distributional data. Based on an analysis of the world fauna, the family is redefined within the context of Psylloidea using adult as well as larval morphological characters to comprise five valid genera and 68 species. Two genera and 47 species are described as new, and twelve species are redescribed. All genera are diagnosed and morphological descriptions are illustrated with 619 original drawings and photographs. One family-group name, two genus-group names and three species-group names are synonymised, and eight new combinations are proposed. The internal phylogenetic relationships of the Phacopteronidae are examined with cladistic methodology. The Phacopteronidae is monophyletic based on six synapomorphic adult characters, three of which are newly defined and two, previously used for the diagnosis of Pseudophacopteron Enderlein, 1921, are shown to be informative at family level. The family is distributed throughout the tropics in all major biogeographical regions approximately between 30°N and 30°S. It is primarily associated with different families of the plant order Sapindales (= Rutales) except for nine Pseudophacopteron species which develop on Gentianales: Apocynaceae. The Afrotropical fauna is revised completely and identification keys to adults and fifth instar larvae of the 31 currently known species are provided. Larvae of the Phacopteronidae are free-living or induce open pit or closed nut galls. The different types of larval biology are demonstrated using the example of the phacopteronid fauna of Cameroon.
