Epiphany of Face in the Works of Emmanuel Lévinas

Abstract:

Tato práce pojednává o židovském filosofovi Emmanuelu Lévinasovi, kterému se podařilo neobyčejné - spojení tradice židovské nauky s fenomenologií v prostředí západní filosofie. Práce nabízí stručný přehled a kontext jeho životních mezníků a hlavních myšlenek. Práce zdůrazňuje etickou stránku jeho děl se zaměřením na epifanii tváře jakožto akt setkání s Druhým. Výchozím spisem pro celou práci je Totalita a nekonečno, esej o exterioritě (Totalité et infini, Essai sur l'extériotité). Cílem práce je představit celý koncept Lévinasovy filosofie v její jedinečnosti.

Abstract:

This Bachelor thesis deals with the topic of Jewish philosopher Emmanuel Lévinas, who managed an extraordinary - bond a Jewish tradition with phenomenology in the background of Western philosophy. The thesis offers an overview and context of his life millstones and his main thoughts. The stress is put on the ethical hand of his work with focus on the epiphany of the face as an act of meeting the Other. The main source of the entire work is Totality and Infinity, essay of exteriority (Totalité et infini, Essai sur l'extériotité). The aim of this thesis is to present the whole concept of the Levinas's philosophy in its uniqueness.
