The use of a virtual immersion environment for practicing the communicative competences of beginning teachers

Abstract:

V posledních několika letech dochází k pronikání virtuální reality do vzdělávání, zejména díky znatelnému poklesu cen technických prostředků, které pomáhají modely ve virtuální realitě tvořit a využívat. Nejrůznější virtuální prostředí se tak dostávají z oblasti marketingu, zábavního či videoherního průmyslu také do edukačních procesů, a to na všech úrovních vzdělávání. Předmětem disertační práce autora je prozkoumání a popis možného využití virtuálního prostředí v přípravě budoucích pedagogů, primárně v oblasti nabývání jejich komunikativních kompetencí v kontextu komunikace s rodiči svých budoucích žáků. Disertační práce s názvem Využití virtuálního imerzního prostředí pro nácvik komunikativních kompetencí začínajících učitelů představuje deskriptivní výzkumnou studii, jež má za úkol odhalit možnosti a limity využití technologie virtuální reality při rozvoji komunikativních kompetencí začínajících učitelů, a to za pomoci navržení vhodného virtuálního imerzního prostředí a přípravy výukových aktivit, které v něm budou budoucí či stávající pedagogičtí pracovníci podstupovat a pracovat tak na rozvoji těchto kompetencí. Práce se tak zaměřuje na aktuální fenomén využití virtuálních prostředí v terciárním vzdělávání a představuje výzkumný problém a cíle práce a navrhuje způsob, který je pomáhá naplnit. Toto naplnění řeší pomocí realizovaného deskriptivního výzkumu, který proběhl v letech 2021 a 2022 na půdě Fakulty pedagogické Západočeské univerzity v Plzni s využitím původního prostředí Virtuální třídy. Výsledky studie dokazují, že při vhodné implementaci simulačních her, opřených o scénáře založených na reálných pedagogických situacích, se může virtuální prostředí stát technickým výukovým prostředkem, díky kterému je možné plánovat krátké efektivní výukové aktivity, při kterých mohou studenti pedagogických oborů rozvíjet své komunikativní kompetence.

Abstract:

In the last few years, virtual reality has been penetrating education, mainly thanks to a noticeable decrease in the prices of technical devices that help in the creation and use of models in virtual reality. In this way, the most diverse virtual environments from the field of marketing, entertainment, and the video game industry are also included in educational processes, at all levels of education. The subject of the author's dissertation is the investigation and description of the possible use of the virtual environment in the preparation of future teachers, primarily in the area of acquiring their communicative competences in the context of communication with the parents of their future pupils. The dissertation entitled "The use of a virtual immersion environment for the training of communicative competences of beginning teachers" is a descriptive research study, which aims to reveal the possibilities and limits of the use of virtual reality technology in the development of communicative competences of beginning teachers, with the help of designing a suitable virtual immersion environment, and the preparation of teaching activities that future or existing teaching staff will undertake in it, and thereby work on the development of these competencies. Therefore, the work focuses on the current phenomenon of the use of virtual environments in tertiary education, and presents the research problem and goals of the work, and proposes a method that helps to fulfil them. This fulfilment is solved with the aid of descriptive research carried out in 2021 and 2022 at the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, using the original environment of the Virtual Classroom. The results of the study prove that with the appropriate implementation of simulation games based on scenarios, which are in turn based on real pedagogical situations, the virtual environment can become a technical teaching tool, thanks to which it is possible to plan short, effective teaching activities, and during which students of pedagogical fields can develop their communicative competence.
