Student Styles Questionnaire in the Czech context: A pilot study

Abstract:

Tato práce je prvním pokusem o ověření psychometrických charakteristik psychodiagnostické metody Student Styles Questionnaire (SSQ) v českém kontextu. Data byla získána skrze dotazníkové šetření. V první studii tvořilo vzorek 520 středoškoláků (15-23 let; 36 % žen). Konfirmační faktorová analýza nepotvrdila předpokládanou faktorovou strukturu SSQ. Zároveň 3 škály metody z celkových 4 vykazovaly nízké hodnoty vnitřní konzistence. Druhé studie, zaměřené na empirickou validitu SSQ, se zúčastnilo celkem 337 středoškoláků (16-22 let; 26 % žen). Ve srovnání s manuálem metody jen malá část výsledků indikovala empirickou validitu SSQ. Celkově vzato se v této práci nepodařilo najít dostatečnou podporu pro faktorovou a empirickou validitu SSQ v českém kontextu.

Abstract:

This paper is the first attempt to examine psychometric properties of the Student Styles Questionnaire (SSQ) for use in the Czech context. Data were obtained via survey. In the first study, sample consisted of 520 young people enrolled in a high school (15-23 years; 36% women). Confirmatory factor analysis didn’t reveal reasonably good support for factorial validity of the SSQ factor model. In addition, 3 out of 4 scales showed relatively low values of internal consistency. In the second study that was focused on empirical validity of the SSQ, sample consisted of 337 young people attending a high school (16-22 years; 26 % women). In com-parison to the SSQ manual, only few results showed support for empirical validity of the SSQ. Overall, results of this paper don’t support both factorial and empirical validity of the SSQ in the Czech context.
