Teaching of rhetoric and the differences in its conception of the fundamental retory in ancient Rome

Abstract:

Ve své práci jsem se věnoval výchově a vzdělávání v antickém Římě. Cílem nebylo detailně popsat všechny stupně výchovy a vzdělávání, nicméně jsem vývoj výchovy a stupně vzdělávání vymezil a zároveň je zařadil do adekvátního historického rámce. Zaměřil jsem se na vyšší, terciární, vzdělávání. Důvodem byl hlavní cíl, a to jaký byl pohled na výuku rétoriky, popřípadě rétoriku jako takovou, u stěžejních rétorů a lidí zabývajících se vzděláváním. Pro dosažení cíle jsem si kladl otázky: Jakými principy se řídila výuka na rétorických školách?, Jaké bylo vnímání řečnictví v antickém Římě?, Co nám naznačuje porovnání rétoriky v různých obdobích historie antického Říma?, Jaké můžeme detekovat styly řečí u vybraných řečníků a učitelů?, a Jaké byly rozdíly, či styčné body, v jejich pojímání rétoriky?. Mnou vybraní rétoři byli Cato, Cicero, Seneca mladší, Quintilianus a Tacitus. Pro adekvátní odpovědi na kladené otázky jsem použil analýzu primárních a sekundárních zdrojů relevantních k tématu rétorického vzdělávání. To bylo jedním z primárních bodů vzdělávání v antickém Římě. Nemůžeme proto o rétorice uvažovat jako o marginálním oboru pedagogiky. Důvodem je rétorika sama, neboť se opět dostává do popředí pozornosti a zájmu společnosti. Jde, stejně jako v antickém Římě, o velmi reflektované téma jak v politice, tak i v mezilidských nebo obchodních vztazích.

Abstract:

In my work, I have dealt with education in ancient Rome. The aim of this study was not to describe all grades of education and training in detail, however, I have set the development of training and levels of education and ranked it in an adequate historical framework. I have mainly focused on higher tertiary education. The reason was the main target of the work, which I have defined, and that was the view of the rhetoric teaching or simply rhetoric itsefl by the main rhetoricians and people dealing with education. In order to achieve the goal, I have asked questions: What principles have the tutorial on the rhetorical schools followed?, What was the perception of public speaking in the ancient Rome?, What suggests us the comparison of rhetoric in different periods of ancient Rome history?, What speech styles can we detect by selected speakers and teachers? and What were the differences, or main points, in their conception of rhetoric? I have chosen these rhetoricians: Cato, Cicero, Seneca the Younger, Quintilianus and Tacitus. For adequate answers to the questions asked, I used an analysis of primary and secondary sources relevant to the topic of rhetorical education. It was one of the primary points of education in ancient Rome. Therefore we can cogitate rhetoric as a marginal pedagogy domain. The reason is rhetoric itself, because it has been getting into the forefront of the attention and interest of human society again. It is nowadays, as well as in ancient Rome, a very reflected theme in politics and interpersonal or business relations.
