Psycholinguistic analysis of the embodied conceptual metaphor theory

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on aspects of embodied language in relation to conceptual metaphors. The thesis itself contains complex research on the theory of embodied language structures which are examined by processes of awareness, cognition and memory then tested via a psycholinguistic test. This test should bring new data on the nature and significance of the embodied language theory in relation to metaphor understanding and their transfer between linguistic domains. The first part of the thesis contains a complex description and various views on the conceptual metaphor theory and the embodiment of language which shows the previously conducted research in the area and describes the psycholinguistic approach used for examining several of the theories. Second part of the thesis contains of a data based psycholinguistic research including methodology and data analysis. Last part of the thesis discusses the outcomes and possible further investigation in the matter of conceptual metaphors.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na aspekty ztělesněného jazyka ve vztahu ke konceptuálním metaforám. Samotná práce obsahuje komplexní analýzu teorií, týkajících se jazykových struktur, které se vážou k ztělesněnému jazyku a jsou podvědomě testovány na základě psycholingvistického testu. Tento test by měl přinést nová data k odhalení principu a významu teorie ztělesněného jazyka ve vztahu k chápání metafor a jejich transfer mezi lingvistickými doménami. První část práce obsahuje komplexní popis teorie konceptuálních metafor a ztělesněného jazyka, ukazuje předchozí výzkumy v této oblasti a dále také popisuje psycholingvistický přístup, který je využit pro zkoumání některých teorií. Druhá část práce obsahuje psycholingvistický výzkum obsahující metodologii a získaná data. Poslední část obsahuje diskuzi možných východisek a významů pro budoucí výzkum v oblasti konceptuálních metafor.
