The Impact of Unconventional Monetary Policy on Exchange Rate

Abstract:

The goal of this diploma thesis is to evaluate unconventional monetary policy measures of central banks and their influence on exchange rate. Thesis focuses specifically on use of unconventional monetary policy of the Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank. In the process, the thesis tracks the chosen unconventional measures of monetary policy adopted by the ECB and the FED and pays attention to their concrete role in context of central banks. Unconventional monetary instruments by the central banks have helped to recover an economic activity after an attenuation which was triggered by the financial crisis, but they also have a side effect of impacting the exchange rates. This thesis is trying to explain how exchange rate changes after quantitative easing is applied by the central banks.
