Tourist shelters of D. S. Jurkovič at Pustevny in the period context

Abstract:

Předkládaná bakalářská práce je zaměřena na tvorbu architekta Dušana Jurkoviče v souvislosti se zakázkou na výstavbu útulny Maměnky a jídelny Libušín na Pustevnách mezi léty 1897–1899. Pozornost je těmto stavbám věnována v souvislosti s architektovým etnografickým studiem na Valašsku a Uherském Slovensku. Současně se zaměřuje na Pohorskou jednotu Radhošť, jako jejich objednavatele. Cílem práce je vytvořit komplexní pohled na stavby, zahrnující historický kontext výstavby, zdroje Jurkovičovy inspirace v lidovém stavitelství, vliv objednavatele staveb a nastínění vývoje zájmu o lidové stavitelství v širším kontextu. Výzkum je založen na analýze archivních pramenů, dobových textů a literatury doplněné o formální a stylově-kritickou analýzu objektů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on the work of the architect Dušan Jurkovič in connection with a commission for the construction of the Maměnka chalet and the Libušín dining room in the Pustevny mountain saddle between 1897 and 1899. The thesis puts attention to these buildings in the context of the architect’s ethnographic studies in Moravian Wallachia and in Slovakia of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. At the same time it focuses on the Pohorská jednota Radhošť association as their commissioner. The aim of this thesis is to create a comprehensive view of the buildings, including the historical context of their construction, the sources of Jurkovič’s inspiration in vernacular architecture, the influence of the building’s commissioner and to outline the development of interest in vernacular architecture in a broader point of view. The research is based on an analysis of archival sources, written texts from that time and literature followed by formal and critical stylistic analysis of the buildings.
