Analysing the reception of the Novels by Vladimir Sorokin

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce se zaměřuje na mezikulturní recepci děl Vladimira Sorokina. Teoretická část obsahuje životopisné údaje o spisovateli a charakteristiku jeho tvorby. V praktické části jsou dále analyzovány české, slovenské, angloamerické a ruské recenze šesti próz. Posuzovaný soubor je převážně tvořen články z tištěných a internetových periodik. Práce se snaží zjistit, jak kritické reflexe určují význam děl, čím se liší v jednotlivých kulturách a co je pro recenzní texty příznačné. Dává je do souvislosti s časopiseckými rozhovory s literátem a pokládá si otázku, zdali může jeho výklad recepci ovlivnit. Výsledky práce potvrzují recepční rozdíly v kulturních prostředích, vliv dané doby a vztah se Sorokinovým výkladem vlastních děl.

Abstract:

This master's thesis focuses on the intercultural reception of several works by Vladimir Sorokin. The theoretical part provides biographical data about the author and the main characteristics of his work. The practical part further analyses Czech, Slovak, Anglo-American, and Russian reviews of six selected proses. The analysed reviews consist primarily of articles from both printed and online periodicals. The thesis attempts to reveal how critical reflections determine the meaning of the works, how the reception of the proses differ in individual cultures and what are some of the typical features of the review texts. It relates the reviews with a selection of magazine interviews with the author and speculates whether Sorokin’s interpretation might impact the reception of his prose. The findings of the thesis confirm that the reception of the works is influenced by the differences in various cultural environments as well as the given historical period and Sorokin’s own interpretation of his works.
