Fluctuating Asymmetry of Permanent and Deciduous Tooth Crowns

Abstract:

Fluctuating asymmetry is nowadays used to estimate developmental stability of an individual or an entire population. Studying fluctuating dental asymmetry of metric traits in deciduous and permanent dentitions that both belong to the same person can help estimate individual ability to buffer stress factors that disrupt ontogeny. The main aim of this thesis is to find out whether there is a significant difference between fluctuating asymmetry in deciduous and permanent dentition. Brno Collection of Orthodontic Dental Plaster Casts was used to measure dental traits. Three dimensions were measured on plaster casts of selected teeth (incisors, canines, molars). Dimensions were taken from each of selected individuals with imprints of both permanent and temporary dentition. Dental plaster casts were examined and total number of 51 people was chosen for purposes of this study, where 17 were men and 34 women. There was no evidence of statistically significant difference in dental traits between female and male dentition. Fluctuating asymmetry of deciduous dentition was statistically significantly lower than fluctuating asymmetry of permanent dentition.

Abstract:

Fluktuačná asymetria je v súčasnosti používaná ako jeden z nástrojov na odhad vývinovej stability jedinca, prípadne celej populácie. Štúdium dentálnej fluktuačnej asymetrie na znakoch dočasného a trvalého chrupu patriacich rovnakým jedincom umožňuje zistiť mieru ich individuálnej schopnosti vyrovnať sa so stresovými faktormi narušujúce ich ontogenézu. Hlavným cieľom tejto bakalárskej práce bolo zistiť, či existuje rozdiel vo veľkosti fluktuačnej asymetrie na znakoch zubov dočasného a trvalého chrupu. Na meranie znakov boli použité sadrové odliatky zubného chrupu pochádzajúce z Brnenskej zbierky zubných odtlačkov. U vybraných jedincov, ktorí mali zhotovené odtlačky dočasného aj trvalého chrupu boli na zuboch (rezáky, očné zuby, stoličky) hornej aj dolnej čeľuste merané tri rozmery. Vybrané boli odliatky od 51 jedincov, z čoho bolo 17 mužov a 34 žien. Nebol zistený štatisticky signifikantný rozdiel vo veľkosti fluktuačnej asymetrie medzi ženským a mužským chrupom. Zuby dočasného chrupu vykazovali signifikantne nižšie hodnoty fluktuačnej asymetrie než zuby trvalého chrupu.
