Time Disciplanation of our Bodies: The Children's Home

Abstract:

Michel Foucault ve svém rozsáhlém díle mimo jiné popsal, v jakých formách nejrůznější instituce přebírají od věznic disciplinační techniky, které následně využívají ke kontrole a ovládání svých uživatelů. Tato práce na jeho dílo navazuje. Prostřednictvím etnografického výzkumu bylo prozkoumáno používání disciplinačních praktik v jednom konkrétním dětském domově v České republice. Práce se zaměřuje především na časovou disciplinaci a v empirické části je popsáno, jak dětský domov pomocí času disciplinuje těla svých uživatelů a vede je k samostatnosti a sebedisciplinaci. Z pohledu časové disciplinace bylo identifikováno především využívání tří základních praktik, a to rutiny v rámci organizace času, kontroly a dohledu uživatelů (např. ve virtuálním prostoru) a zaplňování volného času.

Abstract:

In his extensive work, Michel Foucault described the forms in which various institutions adopt disciplinary techniques from prisons. The institutions subsequently use them for surveillance and manipulating their users. This thesis follows on from his work. Using ethnographic research, the use of practices of disciplination in one particular children's home in the Czech Republic was investigated. The thesis focuses mainly on the time disciplination and the empirical part describes how the children's home disciplines the bodies of its users and leads them to self-reliance and self-disciplination through the time. From the time disciplination point of view, the use of three basic practices was identified: routine within the organization of time, surveillance and supervision of users (e. g. in cyberspace) and filling of free time.
