Radical Democracy and COVID 19: Antivaxxers in the Czech Republic

Abstract:

Práce řeší radikální demokracii, zejména v pojetí belgické politické teoretičky Chantal Mouffe, která je teoretickou alternativou k současnému společenskému systému. Popisuje základní rámec této teorie a porovnává jej s požadavky vznášenými skupinou obyvatel České republiky, která během pandemie Covidu-19 odmítala epidemiologická opatření a kritizovala povahu systému. Cílem práce je zhodnotit, zda je možné tuto protestní skupinu chápat jako zastánce radikální demokracie.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with radical democracy, especially with the concept of the Belgian political theorist Chantal Mouffe, which is a theoretical alternative to the current social system. It describes the basic framework of this theory and compares it with the demands raised by a group of citizens of the Czech Republic, who during the Covid-19 pandemic rejected epidemiological measures and criticized the nature of the system. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate whether it is possible to understand this protest group as a supporter of radical democracy or not.
