Self-regulation in the social sphere in the context of coping, self-esteem and self-efficacy in late adolescence

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá mapováním seberegulačních mechanismů v sociální oblasti v období pozdní adolescence, přičemž vychází z Baltesovy teorie celoživotního vývoje SOC mechanismů (selekce, optimalizace, kompenzace a selekce založené na ztrátě). Práce zkoumá vztahy mezi mechanismy SOC a self-esteem a self-efficacy v období pozdní adolescence a také vztahy mezi mechanismy SOC a volbou copingových strategií. Pozornost je věnována i genderovým rozdílům spojeným s touto problematikou. Výzkumný vzorek tvořilo 665 studentů středních škol ve věku 15-20 let. Výsledky ukázaly signifikantní genderové rozdíly v preferenci užívání jednotlivých mechanismů sociální SOC, dále byly zjištěny korelace mezi všemi typy copingových strategií a sociální SOC a byla potvrzena souvislost mezi sociální seberegulací a self-esteem i self-efficacy. V diskuzi navrhujeme možné aplikace výsledků práce a také možné zaměření dalšího výzkumu.

Abstract:

This thesis maps the self-regulation mechanisms in the social sphere in late adolescence. The research is based on Baltes's life-span developmental theory of SOC mechanisms (selection, optimization, compensation and loss-based selection). This thesis investigates the relationship between SOC mechanisms and self-esteem, and self-efficacy in late adolescence and also deals with the relationship between the SOC mechanisms and the choice of coping strategies. Attention is also given to gender differences connected with this issue. The research sample consisted of 665 15-20-year-old high school students. The results show significant gender differences in the use of SOC mechanisms in social sphere. There were found correlations between all types of coping strategies and SOC mechanisms in social sphere and the connection between self-regulation in social sphere and self-esteem and self-efficacy was confirmed. In the Discussion section, we propose possible applications of the findings of the thesis and possible focus of future research.
